Ossining's Morrison Elected to State Band Association

Bradley Morrison, director of cultural arts for the Ossining school district, was elected first vice president of the New York State Band Directors Association Executive Board at the organization’s 2015 symposium, which was held in Syracuse March 6-8.

Morrison was a member-at-large on the executive board for two years before being elected first vice president. In his new role, he will plan the group’s annual symposium.

After serving a two-year term, the organization’s first vice presidents ascend to the presidency of the Band Directors Association, which is affiliated with the New York State School Music Association.

As director of cultural arts in Ossining, Morrison supervises music, art and theater curricula, programs, and teachers in the school district. Before starting the job in July 2009, he was band director at Anne M. Dorner Middle School for four years.

Morrison, whose primary instrument is euphonium, a brass wind instrument, said the band world has always been an important part of his life.

“To me band is a community and it’s sort of an ideal community. Everyone needs to do their part and when everyone does their part, you end up with something beautiful,” he said.

Morrison is the founder, director and principal conductor for the Youth Wind Ensemble of Westchester; president of the Westchester County Arts Leadership Association; and director of music for St. Ann’s Parish in Ossining. He is the founder of the Rivertowns Middle School Honor Band and Orchestra Festival and a past executive board member of the Westchester County School Music Association.

He received a bachelor’s in music education from the State University of New York at Fredonia, a master’s in school building leadership from Mercy College and an advanced diploma in school district leadership from the College of New Rochelle.
