Out-of-Season Nor'Easter Headed To The Hudson Valley

A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for Putnam, Rockland, and Northern Westchester.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook that mostly looks at the next six days. Among other things, there's concern about a nor'easter that's likely to hit Friday night into Saturday. But meteorologists say we're in for some unsettled weather Thursday as well.

DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.
A few thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight could produce locally damaging winds.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday.
Low pressure passing to the south late Friday night into Saturday will produce heavy rain north of its track. The heaviest rain will likely remain to the south, but any northward change in the expected track could result in rainfall capable of causing flooding.

So over the next week, while we may avoid the heavy rain, we still could see some flooding. (To get Patch’s free daily newsletters, news alerts and updates from more than 100 New York communities, click here.)

The weak cold front approaches first, across the lower Hudson Valley and southern Connecticut late Thursday
afternoon, then across Long Island and the New York City metropolitan area tonight. Temperatures will continue their slow moderation, but will still be a few degrees below average.

The front should weaken and stall over the area on Friday. A few more showers and thunderstorms may develop along the old boundary Friday afternoon, mainly in or near the New York City metropolitan area. Temperatures will be near seasonal averages, with highs in the 80s.

It now appears likely we should see an out of season nor'easter late Friday night into Saturday, with heavy rain and gusty winds expected, especially along the coast, and in and near New York City, the NWS says.
