Pidgeon Rescues Owlets

Last week's storm damaged a nest at Croton Point Park. First one baby fell out, then another.

Two baby owls were rescued at Croton Point Park due to the keen eyes and quick work of a group of Cortlandt residents who love the park and keep tabs on its wildlife.

Bobby Pidgeon has been watching a pair of owls for the past few years -- and a good friend of his, Anwar Alomaisi, has been taking beautiful photos of them.

Alomaisi called Pidgeon April 7 for help with the nest, which has three baby owls in it this year.

"Apparently the front of their nest fell apart in the rain storm on Thursday and all three were dislodged. Two stayed in the tree, but the smallest wasn't strong enough," Pidgeon said.

So PIdgeon called the state Department of Environmental Conservation, went down to the park, met with DEC Officer Thomas Koepf, and they checked out the owlet and returned it to the nest.

"Then on Friday I get another call that another one fell out so back - so I went with my wife Kyle McCarthy, and we met the DEC officer again and replaced the second owlet. As of this morning everyone was doing great in the tree," Pidgeon reported.
