Police Chase, Crash Closes Route 9, Injures 2

The accident closed Route 9 on the Ossining-Briarcliff Manor border for hours.

OSSINING, NY — The crash that closed Route 9 on the Ossining-Briarcliff Manor border for hours Wednesday was due to a police chase, according to news reports.

The chase started when Ossining police attempted to arrest a man wanted on a felony warrant from another jurisdiction. He fled, and was only stopped when he rammed a Briarcliff police car near Scarborough Road, police said. Both he and the officer were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the Ossining Daily Voice reported.

Route 9 was closed between Rockledge Avenue and Route 117, causing massive traffic problems through Ossining and Briarcliff as motorists were diverted onto side roads. The road was reopened Wednesday night.
