Police ID Man Who Went Missing off Croton Point

Tellers Point is known for strong currents.

The man who went in swimming while fishing with two friends at Croton Point has been identified by police.

Alex Desouza, 47, a Brooklyn resident, is confirmed drowned.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said that Souza and his friends had rented a cabin, but went fishing because they couldn't check in yet. At 10:45 a.m., he decided to go swimming.

Desouza went in at Tellers Point, which is the southern most tip of the peninsula. Signs warn that it is dangerous to go in the water there. The undertow and cross-currents where the Hudson River and the Croton River meet are strong and irregular.
