Summer packs one last punch with a 25-degree swing as the region rides a roller coaster with a possible surprise at the end.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — It may be feeling and looking like autumn, but summertime will counter-attack. It's a roller-coaster week that could see 90 degree temps at one point and the first frost at another.

"Wednesday will likely see record setting temperatures across most of the region as temperatures rise well above normal," the National Weather Service warns. "Highs are expected to range in the 80s with lower 90s possible across portions of northeastern New Jersey. Humidity levels will also increase Wednesday, feeling more summer-like."

It won't last, thank goodness. In fact, the highest parts of the Hudson Valley may see frost, said Bill Potter and Alex Marra of Hudson Valley Weather.

"Things get much cooler late week, with a taste of fall coming to the region. Highs will struggle to hit 60° with multiple chances at rain showers. We’ll have to keep an eye on the potential for our first frost next weekend."

Here's how the NWS lays it out:
