Animals Enjoy St. Patrick’s Day Treats At Brookfield Zoo

Some of the animals were given shamrock-shaped and green treats made of a complete-balanced biscuit and gelatin.

BROOKFIELD, IL — St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated at Brookfield Zoo as some of the animals were given shamrock-shaped and green treats made of a complete-balanced biscuit and gelatin. The zoo said the camels, lemurs, orangutans, and gorillas all seemed to enjoy the novel enrichment items provided by the animal care staff. Boone and Lily, two of the zoo’s gray seals, whose natural habitat is the North Atlantic, including off the coast of Ireland, received gelatin goodies as well.

According to the zoo, the nesting material of the western lowland gorillas was also dyed with a non-toxic green coloring for the holiday. Among the animals who received treats were: Nora the western lowland gorilla; Lily and Boone, two gray seals; Ramses the ring-tailed lemur; Ben the Bornean orangutan; and Sophia the Bornean orangutan.
