Larry was an Army veteran, a 54-year member of Washington Hook & Ladder Co. #2, Truck 42 and member of IBEW Local 3. He dearly loved his country, his church and his family and friends. Larry will be fondly remembered for his great Irish sense of humor and ability to find joy in everything around him, whether family, friends or even strangers.

Larry lived by a simple credo: “A party is what you make of it!” He applied this philosophy to all aspects of his life. He could turn even unpleasant tasks into moments of laughter and fun. He once went to village hall to take care of a traffic ticket for his wife, and with a twinkle in his eye asked if there was any way he could have her locked up! A jolly personality with a perfect white beard, Larry would spread joy every December by wearing a Santa hat and shouting “Merry Christmas!” in front of awestruck children. For a man who hated sand between his toes, didn’t ski and did not consider himself an outdoorsman, he enjoyed countless beach, ski and camping vacations with family and friends…because a party IS what you make of it.

Larry enjoyed engaging in quiet acts of kindness. He was a big believer in “dropping by” just because he was “in the neighborhood,” especially for friends and family who were sick or in need of help. A man of deep faith, Larry was as quick with a prayer as he was with a joke, and all family vacations would begin with a “travel prayer” as the family pulled out of the driveway. If you were sick, he would pray with you, and if you were going through tough times, he prayed for you.

Larry laughed often, sang loudly and danced (to 50’s music) like nobody was watching.

While his life was not always easy, he lived with a spirit of gratitude. Even in his final weeks when he was suffering the most, he always told everyone he was doing great and he considered himself lucky to have had the life he had. He made the lives around him infinitely better and happier. His family and friends will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be held at St. Augustine’s Church (381 N Highland Ave, Ossining, NY 10562), at 10AM on Saturday, July 7 th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Larry’s name to the American Legion at https://www.legion.org/donate or PO Box 361626 Indianapolis, IN 46236.
