Smuggling Drugs to Sing Sing: Cops Accuse Visitor

Police said she was carrying suboxone, heroin, cocaine and synthetic marijuana.

OSSINING, NY — State police arrested a Brooklyn woman Dec. 22 after a report that she had visited Sing Sing Prison with drugs she planned to provide to an inmate.

Shakeema L. Chavis, 35, faces charges of Promoting Prison Contraband in the 2nd Degree and four counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, both Class A Misdemeanors.

Police said their investigation revealed that Chavis entered the prison with Suboxone, Synthetic Marijuana, Heroin and Cocaine.

She's due in Ossining Court Jan. 10.

The New York State Police were assisted by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Office of Special Investigations.
