Sunken Boat Recovered From The Hudson River: Police
A resident who could see an anchored vessel taking on water and sinking called 911.

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — A 34-foot boat sank in the Hudson River south of Oscawana Island Park Tuesday, leading to a search and rescue mission involving county and local emergency responders.
Westchester County Police Communications received a call at 3:30 p.m. from a woman in Croton-on-Hudson who said she could see an anchored vessel taking on water and sinking.
The County Police Marine Unit, assisted by multiple fire department boats, conducted a grid search of the river in case anyone was in the water or still on board the vessel. The Westchester County Police Aviation Unit helicopter also responded and searched from the air.

The Yorktown Heights Fire Department Dive Team was deployed from the county's Marine Unit boats to assist in the search after the vessel sank. Local emergency responders also included volunteers and boats from Ossining and Verplanck fire departments, Croton firefighters and EMS, Ossining police and paramedics.
It was learned during the incident that the boat, a 34-foot Bayliner, had been anchored for several days and no one had been seen on board during that time.

At 8:46 p.m., the sunken vessel was raised by Sea Tow and towed to Viking Boat Yard to be removed from the water. The Marine Unit is working to identify the legal owner and determine what caused the boat to take on water.
