Support Croton EMS Volunteers: Vote YES for LOSAP

Croton EMS needs your help on Election Day. Please vote “YES” for the Croton EMS Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) on your ballot. (Remember to flip the ballot over to vote.)

A LOSAP recognizes volunteers for sustained service and participation.Under the program, qualifying volunteers earn service credits during their years of active service that can ultimately provide a modest income supplement after reaching retirement age. New York law specifically provides for LOSAP programs for volunteer fire and ambulance organizations.Unlike a traditional employee pension, a LOSAP is designed to recognize and encourage continued volunteer service.

Croton EMS volunteers, supplemented by paid EMTs, respond to more than 1,000 calls each year.We provide standby coverage at community events, including street festivals, sporting events, and graduation ceremonies.We respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in all weather conditions.

Our volunteers are the foundation of the emergency medical services we provide. Recruiting and retaining qualified volunteers has become increasingly challenging. A LOSAP would provide a meaningful incentive for volunteers to remain active and committed over the long term, while also giving Croton EMS another tool to attract new members.

The proposal would establish a LOSAP for Croton EMS similar in concept to the programs already in place for Croton Fire and other neighboring volunteer agencies, providing a comparable service-award opportunity for Croton EMS volunteers.

For less than $1 per month per household, a YES vote would make a big difference in supporting the volunteers who help provide emergency medical care to our community.
