Thanhha Lai Speaks About Novel 'Inside Out And Back Again'
Lai spoke about her experiences as a refugee during the Vietnam War to eighth graders at Pierre Van Cortlandt.

From Croton- Harmon Schools: Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School eighth-grade students in Croton-on- Hudson were recently treated to a special visit from local author Thanhha Lai.
Lai discussed her 2011 novel “Inside Out and Back Again,” which details her experiences as a refugee during the Vietnam War. She won the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature and a Newbery Honor for the book.
Lai was born in Saigon, Vietnam and immigrated to Montgomery, Alabama following the war in 1975. Since then, she has founded non-profit organization Viet Kids Inc., which supplies poor Vietnamese students with bicycles.
