Turkey Drive: Help Those in Need in Westchester
Food Bank's goal: 5,000 turkeys for hungry families this Thanksgiving. Here's how to participate.

The Food Bank for Westchester, which operates the county’s largest food collection and emergency distribution network, is in the middle of its annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive.
“When we think of Thanksgiving, we think of sitting down with our family and friends and enjoying their company over a delicious meal -- we want everyone in Westchester to have that joyful experience,” said Ellen Lynch, President/CEO of the Food Bank for Westchester. “There are thousands of hungry people in our county who struggle to provide meals for their families. Let’s come together and provide something as simple as turkeys to families that will help make their Thanksgiving memorable.”
Stop & Shop donated 800 turkeys to kick off the drive. The grocery chain’s donation gives the Food Bank a kick-start to reach its goal to provide 5,000 turkeys to families in need this Thanksgiving.

With about 200,000 Westchester residents hungry or at risk of being hungry, there is a significant need for meals this holiday season. The problem of hunger has gotten significantly worse in recent years and the price of turkeys has risen more than 50 percent in the past year.
A donation of just $20 provides a turkey to a family, Lynch said.
