This review will focus on certain practices - including red-lining and the administration of the GI Bill - that contributed to a significant wealth disparity between whites and POC that persists today. BCC September 11th CeremonySaturday, September 11 | 1:00 PMCroton Landing ParkThe annual 9-11 Memorial Ceremony is jointly held by the Town of Cortlandt, and Villages of Buchanan and Croton-on-Hudson. To attend the ceremony, please gather at the Croton Landing parking area at the north end of Elliott Way by 12:30 PM. Led by a color guard from the community, participants will walk in procession along the quarter mile pathway north to the memorial site on the Hudson River. A van from the Village of Croton will be in the parking area to transport those who need assistance. Croton Reservoir & Dam HikeSunday, September 12 | 10:00 AMCroton DamJoin Friends of the Old Croton on Aqueduct on an easy 2.5-mile (total), two-hour hike north along the Aqueduct and atop the beautiful Croton Dam. The hike group is to meet near the restrooms at the parking lot at Croton Gorge Park, Route. 129, Cortlandt, NY 10567. There will be a parking fee of $10. The leader of the hike will discuss the history and construction of the Old Croton Aqueduct, as well as the features of the Croton Dam. Pre-registration is required by clicking here. Space is limited. Masks and social distancing are required of all attendees. Walk may be rescheduled if weather does not permit. The film is a documentary following Alice Tregay – a woman who refused to stand still for injustice. Her story spans the marches of Dr. King to the election of Barack Obama. Dudnick, who brought Alice’s story to life in the documentary, will give a one-hour presentation and Q&A on Zoom. The film is available to watch for free through the libraries’ Kanopy streaming service. Check it out here. Patrons are encouraged to watch it before the Zoom program, but the presentation can be enjoyed whether or not you’ve seen it. Other services provided include, notary services, preserving military discharge papers and filing of business certificates. Get your flu vaccine, Covid-19 vaccine, or both, at the Croton Free Library. No appointment required! The event will be outdoors, weather permitting. Please wear a mask and bring your insurance card.
