Volunteer Opportunities Of The Week: The Hudson River Eaglefest

Every week, Patch will spotlight volunteer opportunities in the Hudson Valley courtesy of Volunteer New York!.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Each week, Patch will be highlighting volunteer opportunities in the Lower Hudson Valley, courtesy of Volunteer New York!. This is a chance to help your community and be an opportunity to give back — perhaps in a way you didn't consider before.

This week, we are putting the spotlight on some opportunities in the Hudson Valley.

Hudson River EagleFest
EagleFest—Teatown Lake Reservation's largest and most exciting annual event—celebrates the Bald Eagle's incredible recovery from near extinction. Volunteers are needed to help with admissions and greeting guests, parking guidance, photography, serving as a Teatown Ambassador, and more. Volunteers receive free admission to the festival and access to its educational programs and activities, as well as a warm bowl of soup courtesy of Ferry Sloops volunteers.
Date: 2/7 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; register by 2/2

National History Day Judges
Adults of all ages and walks of life are needed to serve as judges for the regional contest for National History Day on March 7. No experience or special knowledge is necessary—just an interest in providing supportive feedback to middle- and high-school students. Volunteers' role as a judge has a direct impact on students who seek thoughtful, helpful feedback on their projects, which will serve them whether or not they move onto the next tier of the contest.
Date: 3/7 from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; register by 2/7

Trail Maintenance Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to assist the seasoned trail maintenance team at Ward Acres Park to perform regular maintenance, including invasive plant removal, water channeling, trail rerouting, erosion protection, and other projects. Volunteers must be 18+ and should be capable of moderately strenuous work. Workdays may be canceled in the event of inclement weather.
Date: 2/8 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., alternating Sundays

Meal Pickup Delivery Drivers
5 Steps to Five is seeking reliable volunteers to help with its weekly food delivery program. Volunteer drivers are needed to pick up breakfast trays in Port Chester and drive the food to Mamaroneck. The program facilitator will meet the volunteer at their car and take the food—no need to park or carry items inside! The food delivery consists of a few trays that can fit easily in a standard-sized car and will serve about 10 mothers and their children.
Date: Thursdays from 9:45-10:15 a.m.
