Drunken Driver Struck 2 Pedestrians Operating in Reverse: Police
The Bayville man faces assault, DWI and reckless endangerment charges.
A drunken driver operating a car in reverse struck and injured two pedestrians Saturday night in Bayville, police say.
According to authorities, Brian J. Murphy, 29, of Bayville, was driving a 1996 gray-colored Ford Taurus westbound on Bayville Avenue when he suddenly reversed at a high rate of speed and struck a man and a woman at 8:15 p.m.
The man, 54, suffered a laceration to his elbow and the woman, 52, suffered fractures on her lower extremities. They were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Murphy was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault, second-degree vehicular assault, DWI, second-degree reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
He will be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
