OYSTER BAY, NY — More than 50 couples renewed their vows at the Valentine's Day Vow Renewal ceremony in Town Hall.

More than 100 residents showed up to put their love on display – some couples married for just one year, to those celebrating more than 70 years of marriage.

Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Saladino and Town Clerk LaMarca presided over the vow renewals and ring pledge. The ceremony was co-sponsored by Raynham Hall Museum, and a representative from the museum reenacted the reading of America's First Valentine, which was written on Valentine's Day in 1779 in Oyster Bay.

"This is one of the most special events we run, and we appreciate that so many couples join us to reaffirm their commitment to being together forever," Saladino said.

The story of America's first Valentine is an important piece of Oyster Bay history, set during the American Revolutionary War. Lt. Col Simcoe wrote a poem, 'Will You Be My Valentine,' to a young patriot, and this is the first documented written Valentine in the nation.
