OYSTER BAY, NY--Free sunscreen will be available to Town of Oyster Bay residents this summer, Councilman Steve Labriola announced. Sunscreen dispensers will be placed at local pools and beaches before the summer season as an effort against skin cancer.

"Skin cancer is a national health issue, and prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun is the leading preventable cause of skin cancer," Labriola said in a press release.

There will be 16 dispensers total at different pool and beach facilities. They will be set up in cooperation with Syosset Hospital and Plainview Hospital-Northwell Health. The Town will also work with the health group to create an awareness program aimed at educating local residents about the potential dangers of too much sun exposure.
