Police ID Man Fatally Struck by Tractor-Trailer on LIE

The 54-year-old man exited his car after getting a flat tire Thursday morning, police say.

UPDATE 9:45 p.m.: Police have identified the man killed as 54-year-old Mark K. Feldman, of Sands Point.

A man who exited his car on the Long Island Expressway on Thursday morning was fatally struck by a United States Postal Service tractor-trailer, police say.

According to authorities, a 54-year-old man was traveling eastbound on the Long Island Expressway, near Exit 39 in Old Westbury, when his vehicle became disabled due to a flat fire at 4:55 a.m.

The man pulled over to the right shoulder of the roadway and was struck by the USPS truck when he exited his vehicle, police say.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no criminality at this time and the driver of the truck remained at the scene.

Authorities reportedly closed the expressway while the crash was under investigation and authorities cleaned up remains, which caused major delays.
