Oyster Bay Ends Threat Rumors
Rumors of a threat of violence against high school were unfounded, school officials say.

An apparent threat against Oyster Bay High School Wednesday turned out to be just a rumor, according to OBEN administrators.
Oyster Bay officials confirmed that they had investigated an apparent threat of violence against the school and discovered it was merely a rumor. The story spread that a threat had been made on Facebook.
"By the time it came to our attention, our high school administrators were already investigating," said Superintendent Phyllis Harrington, adding they could find nothing on Facebook at all indicating a threat.

An announcement was made on the PA system at the school, saying it had come to the district's attention that a threat was made but after a thorough investigation, there was no truth to the rumor, said Harrington.
While students were assured there was no threat, Harrington said the announcement put students on alert, sending a message that the hurtful and harmful rumors needed to stop.
