Oyster Bay Invites Fourth Graders To ‘Bee’ Creative In Environmental Poster Contest

Kids have a chance to learn all about pollinators, with the winner earning a tree planted at their school for Arbor Day.

TOWN OF OYSTER BAY, NY — Bees, butterflies, moths, and more – fourth graders are invited to participate in the Town of Oyster Bay's Environmental Poster Contest, all about pollinators.

The contest's theme for this year is 'Bee' a Friend to Pollinators, encouraging students to learn about the striped pollinators, or any pollinator, and showcase the vital role bees play in our food and environment.

"This contest is a fantastic way to inspire young minds about the importance of protecting our natural resources," Supervisor Joseph Saladino said.

Students can explore environmental facts while engaging their creativity by designing a colorful poster all about pollinators. Some of the facts that students can include are as follows:

  • Different types of pollinators – so many to choose from.
  • Flowers and native plants that pollinators love.
  • Ways we can help pollinators, such as planting native flowers, protecting their habitats, keeping our communities clean, reducing pesticides, etc.
  • Why pollinators are important to the world.

The first-place winner will have a tree planted at their school in honor of their poster and recognition of Arbor Day.

The top three winning posters will be on display at a Town facility and will be featured in an upcoming Town of Oyster Bay Environmental Newsletter. There will also be prizes from The Waterfront Center and Friends of the Bay.

Fourth graders can enter by creating a paper no larger than 12 inches by 18 inches. The deadline is April 17, and winners will be announced on April 22. Students must include an entry form, which can be found online.
