Oyster Bay Offers Residents Online Access To Conduct Business

OYSTER BAY, N.Y. — As local residents continue to adjust to changes in everyday life brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, government officials in Oyster Bay are attempting to ease the burden. On Wednesday, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that the town will offer an online portal that allows residents to conduct government business remotely. The site, Town Hall At Home, provides access to a host of services and paperwork that would otherwise require residents to leave their homes.

The online portal is meant to serve as a one-stop shop for residents who may be leery about venturing outside at a time when the pandemic has forced many Americans to work from home and that has led to the closure of restaurants, bars and offices across the country. But by using the Town Hall At Home online option, Saladino says that residents will be able to complete tasks such as paying their taxes and filling out various forms and applications from the comfort of their homes.

The portal also includes a live-chat option that will further assist residents and provide them access to town officials while also maintaining levels of social distancing and healthy practices that have been recommended since the pandemic began.

“We all share in the responsibility to limit person-to-person contact to help thwart the spread of COVID-19, and this is just one way we can all do our part,” Saladino said. “We are all in this together.”

Saladino said that as the country continues to work through the coronavirus crisis, he is encouraging residents to conduct their town business online as much as possible. The live-chat portion of the portal will be available during regular weekday business hours and from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on weekends to further assist residents.

The portal offers residents with valuable information such as contact information for elected town officials, links to town applications, permits and forms and to access to preventative measures in dealing with coronavirus.

“This is unchartered territory,” Saladino said. “But just as we have done in the past, we will all get through this with each of us playing an important role.”
