OYSTER BAY, NY — A new Town of Oyster Bay property tax exemption will be put in place to support the surviving spouses of police officers killed in the line of duty.

This proposal was adopted unanimously by the Town Board and will provide a 50 percent property tax exemption. Supervisor Joseph Saladino said this is about honor heroes and ensuring that their loved ones know the community stands with them.

"Police officers put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities," Supervisor Joseph Saladino said. "When the unthinkable happens, we have a responsibility to support the families they leave behind. This tax relief is one small way to show that their sacrifice will never be forgotten."
