Update: Boy Struck by Fence at Ransom Beach Dies

18-month-old pronounced dead Tuesday morning.

An 18-month-old child has died after being struck by a chain link fence fence at Ransom Beach Monday evening, said police.

Nassau County Police and local fire responders headed to the beach at about 4:55 p.m. Monday to reports of a child in traumatic arrest, police said. Responders reported that an 18-month-old boy struck in the head by an unattached chain link fence that he was playing near, police reported. The fence fell on the child and caused a serious laceration to his head, said police.

The child was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment, reported detectives, who said he was pronounced dead Tuesday at 4:02 a.m.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
