Unsafe Bathing Conditions At Port Washington Beach After Heavy Rainfall

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Nassau County Department of Health has issued an advisory against bathing at 20 beaches for Monday, including a Port Washington beach.

This is a precautionary advisory for beaches that are known to be affected by stormwater runoff caused by heavy rainfall, which can impact bacteria levels.

Glen Cove's Crescent Beach recently reopened this summer after it was shuttered for 17 years due to unsafe bacteria levels that exceeded New York State's standard for bathing water quality.

The North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington is impacted by Monday's advisory, which is to be lifted by 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7.

Sixteen of the beaches affected sit on the North Shore, and four more are on the South Shore. More information can be found on the Nassau County Department of Health's website.
