The $250,000 project was one of the participatory budgeting projects put up for a vote in 2015 by Councilman Brad Lander, whose district includes Park Slope.

A small amphitheater will be built where stories can be read, surrounded by new gardens, planters, paths and a water fountain, according to the Brooklyn Public Library.

The space will also feature a statue (paid for by the Friends of Park Slope Library) of Knuffle Bunny, an award-winning children's book character created by author Mo Willems.

However, the statue's design remains elusive. It wasn't shared with Patch on Tuesday, and wasn't included in a presentation on the project last December, as reported by DNAinfo. (As of that date, the sculpture's timeline hadn't been determined, a BPL spokesperson told the site.)

Construction on the project will last into the fall, but the BPL says that access to the library won't be impacted.
