Angry Trump Statue Floats On Gowanus Canal

You'd be mad too if someone threw you into the Gowanus.

A green-eyed sculpture of President Donald Trump floating on a snake-infested life raft appeared in the Gowanus Canal, leaving the president bobbing in the toxic waterway as passersby snap pictures of their inflatable commander in chief.

GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — There's a new troll living under the Carroll Street Bridge — and by the looks of it, the Gowanus Canal's black mayonnaise sludge already has gotten into his system.

A green-eyed sculpture of President Donald Trump floating on a snake-infested life raft has appeared in the Gowanus Canal, leaving the president bobbing in the toxic waterway as passersby snap pictures of their inflatable commander in chief.

The presidential statue was anchored under the Carroll Street Bridge by a mystery artist sometime over the weekend — likely not by coincidence the same weekend of the neighborhood's popular arts event, Gowanus Open Studios.

It was first spotted Sunday morning by a reader of local blog Pardon Me For Asking, who knew the president hadn't been in the polluted waters long given the canal's "goo" was just starting to collect around the snakes at its base.

The 1.8-mile canal, designated as a hazardous Superfund site, is undergoing a federal cleanup to remove the tons of sewage sludge that have seeped into its waters.

"By this afternoon, he’ll be looking really gross!" the reader wrote to blog-runner Katia Kelly. "Looks like he’s anchored because he’s not moving despite the Gowanus flowing around him this morning. I have no idea how he got there."

Kelly asked readers to let her know if anyone knew how the suited-up president made it into the canal. She didn't immediately respond to a request for any updates Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the artwork baffled and entertained the canal's aficionados.

Head of the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, Andrea Parker, told the Brooklyn Paper she thought the statue was both funny and creepy. Brad Vogel, a member of the Gowanus Dredgers canoe club, told the Paper he might've even seen the mysterious artist who placed it there — a “sort of a gray, hooded figure.”

Other Brooklynites were quick to offer their interpretations, too.

"Do the snakes represent Schumer & Schumer & Pelosi?" one commenter wrote on Kelly's blog.

"Isn't the Canal toxic enough??" another chimed in.

And although the inflatable POTUS' own face seemed to suggest otherwise, at least one reader was happy to see Trump floating through the canal.

"Yes drain all swamps Mr President even the Gowanus!!!!" they wrote, adding a "MAGA" for good measure.
