Brooklyn-Based Hot Yoga Studio To Open Park Slope Spot
The Brooklyn Heights studio Heatwise is opening its second location on 9th Street in June.
PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A popular Brooklyn Heights hot yoga studio is coming to Ninth Street this summer, owners have announced.
Heatwise, which opened its first location on Remsen Street nearly two years ago, is getting ready to open a second location at 203 Ninth St., found on the Park Slope and Gowanus border. The new spot will officially open its doors in June.
“We’re so excited to embrace the Park Slope and Gowanus communities,” owner and founder Samantha Scupp said. “We can’t wait to help more New Yorkers breathe easier, one shvitz at a time.”

Scupp, who previously had a career in the film industry, first started the Heatwise back in August 2017 after using yoga to relieve anxiety but struggling to find a "home" studio. Her goal, Scupp said, was to create a premium studio that could take away stress rather than adding to it in the way other studios she tried out did.
"I’ve worked hard to create a space and an experience that offers comfort, premium quality, and hopefully some levity to our otherwise stressful urban lives," Scupp says on the studio's website. "Leave it all at home, come play with our amazing teachers, indulge in the shvitz and let us know if we didn’t make you smile at least once."

The studio offers an infrared-heated, vinyasa yoga experience along with other classes such as hot pilates, unheated prenatal yoga, and restorative yoga.
Classes at Heatwise cost $34 and include a mat and a towel. There are also offers for five and 10-class packs or monthly memberships.
The new studio will join at least eight other yoga spots throughout the neighborhood, including a few others on Ninth Street, though those don't seem those offer hot yoga options as Heatwise does. The 203 Ninth Street location is also home to Birdman Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, records show.
Heatwise has been featured in Time Out, Self Magazine, Refinery 29 and other fitness-focused publications.
