BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — A staff in Rep. Yvette Clarke's office in Brooklyn tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Clarke announced the diagnosis Friday on Twitter. She wrote the staff member currently doesn't have symptoms and is under self-quarantine.

The congresswoman, who represents the Ninth Congressional District covering Park Slope, Crown Heights, Flatbush, among other neighborhoods, didn't have contact with the staffer, Clarke's office wrote in a statement.

The staffer attended a personal event last week where they later learned another person came down with coronavirus, according to a statement. They got tested for COVID-19 because they have a vulnerable person at home and, several days later, learned about the positive result.

"We are in unprecedented times with COVID-19 and learning the lengthy time it took for my staffer's test results to come back is disconcerting," Clarke wrote.

Coronavirus test shortages and delayed results have been reported across the country, including New York City.
