Brooklyn Tops NYC Coronavirus Deaths, Data Shows

The borough has the most coronavirus deaths — 4,148 — and the second-most confirmed cases in the city.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — It's a distinction no borough wants to claim — Brooklyn now has the most coronavirus deaths in the city.

All told, 4,148 people died from COVID-19 in Brooklyn as of Thursday, according to the city's tally of confirmed and probable coronavirus deaths.

Its deaths eclipsed those in Queens — 4,057 — which has has long led the city's coronavirus case counts.

Queens still has the most confirmed cases — 43,824 to Brooklyn's 37,564 — and its Corona neighborhood remains the epicenter of the city's outbreak.

There are signs the coronavirus wave is leveling off — Mayor Bill de Blasio recently said New York City had a "good day" when its hospitalizations and positive tests dipped.

But the city's overall numbers remain staggering compared to the rest of the country.

Borough Park's 2,087 coronavirus cases — the most in Brooklyn and sixth-most among city zip codes — is a bigger number than those found in suburban counties surrounding Chicago, for instance.

New York City area counties have tens of thousands of more confirmed cases and deaths, according to John Hopkins University.
