The prettiest banquet hall in Park Slope is transforming into a year-round biergarten.
As of Friday, July 17, the sprawling gardens behind the old Victorian at 234 Prospect Avenue will be open for business as the Brooklyn Bavarian Biergarten.
We haven’t gotten a chance to check it out yet, but Catherine Hay, a member of the Grand Prospect Hall team, who’s been running around in a flurry of preparations, says: “I’m not chest beating here, but it is probably the most gorgeous space in all of New York City.”

From the grand-opening presser:
Located in Park Slope at the Grand Prospect Hall, the Biergarten will open on Friday, July 17. Honoring its New York and Bavarian roots, all 24 taps will feature mostly New York State drafts and some German imports. Local Red Hook Winery varietals, a full bar, and an eclectic German-themed menu will also be available.

Today, the outside garden is a visual delight with lush trees, colorful flowers, tranquil water fountains with abundant seating for large groups as well as tables for two. The garden can accommodate 500 people and surrounds a glass-enclosed inside area that can accommodate another 500 fun-seekers. This interior area looks out onto the green outdoors.
The space’s new identity is really more of a throwback. Prospect Hall originally opened as a biergarten and vaudeville entertainment center in 1892 to host the German immigrants of Park Slope.
And for its 2015 resurgence, the owners say they’ve even restored beer-themed oil paintings with taglines like ”Brooklynites can’t live on water alone!”
Ain’t that the truth.
