Brooklyn's Mozarts & Einsteins motivates students intellectually and artistically

Park Slope Preschool Integrates Arts and Academics, Prepares Children for the World Ahead

NEW YORK, NY – September 15, 2014 - Classes are almost full at Mozarts and Einsteins where the staff and 50 students began the preschool’s second year of operation. Up significantly from the six students they started with one year ago, the school has received glowing remarks from parents. Word of mouth has spread quickly and the school is preparing a waiting list for 2015-16.

Mozarts and Einsteins (M&E), a licensed performing arts-based preschool Located at Union Street and Prospect Park West in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, encourages early childhood development both intellectually and artistically. School founder Melody Stevens explains “young children need to be prepared for the world ahead, the teachers at M&E guide the boys and girls in ballet, tap dancing, singing, basic piano and other hands-on activities that foster skills such as reading, writing, counting, measuring, and discovering science. M&E also introduces our students to Spanish, which at this age, is the optimal time to awaken language receptors in the brain, making it easier to learn other languages later in life”, she says.

As a former public school music teacher, Stevens was often discouraged at the devaluation of music and arts in the schools. Melody believed having the combination of music and dance along with math and reading every day could make a significant difference for kids in school. Her heart-felt belief matched the main concept behind M&E, which she discovered at a preschool near Dallas, Texas, founded by Bobbie Robertson.

After securing a license to use the ideas and materials from Robertson, Stevens brought the concept to New York last year where she kicked off her own version of the preschool.

“Teaching children how to read and write is not enough” says Dylan Glanzer, M&E director. “We strive to equip children with a curriculum that is superior in both academics and the arts, so that we may foster a generation of youth who have the tools to excel for a lifetime. Our goal is to teach children how to learn. We want to stimulate their unique, creative ideas and talents by exposing them to a well-rounded program in music, art, drama, dance and academics.” Concluded Glanzer.
