Real Smart Chess - Multi-session Class at Union Hall

Come hone your chess skills with formerly nationally ranked Chess Master Ellie Simon.

This class meets four Sundays, May through June: 5/31, 6/7, 6/14, 6/21, 1:15pm - 3pm. One ticket purchase enrolls you for the length of the session (all four meetings).

Do you love playing chess but lose sight of an overarching strategy? Do certain positions feel overwhelming? Do you sometimes find yourself moving almost randomly? This multi-session class will boost you from a novice player to a strong opponent. We’ll move week-by-week through opening principles, middle game tactics, and endgame theory, to help guide you through each stage of the game. Through a (fun) combo of interactive lectures, games, puzzles, and some surprise bonus games, we will up your level of play.

Ellie Simon is a formerly nationally ranked chess master with two decades of tournaments under her belt. She's taught players of all levels and spent countless hours in parks across the country. She’s also fun and will make this class soooo engaging!

Supplies: Bring a hardbacked notebook or a clipboard and paper for note taking and writing, as well as a pen or pencil of your choice. Chess sets will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own set as well.

Requirements: This class is curated for beginner chess players, but it will not cover the basics. Students must already know the pieces and rules and have some experience playing the game casually.
