Montague Open Streets to Close Season With Community Blood Drive and Live Music

Event Details

Montague Street, Montague St, NY, 11201

Final Sunday on Montague Street features New York Blood Center drive, Irish dance, local music, kids’ activities, and outdoor dining

Montague Street will close to traffic one final time this season on Sunday, June 28, as the Montague Street BID wraps up its 2026 spring/summer Open Streets season.

The closing day will feature a community blood drive, live music, Irish dance, family activities, outdoor dining, and free neighborhood programming, presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Heights Association and New York City’s Department of Transportation.

The event will take place from 12 PM to 5 PM on Montague Street between Clinton and Hicks Streets in Brooklyn Heights. A featured community blood drive in partnership with New York Blood Center and St. Ann’s will run from 11 AM to 5 PM on the Clinton-to-Henry block.

Eligible donors are encouraged to make donating blood part of their Sunday plans. Advance sign-ups are recommended here. Donors will receive a free T-shirt while supplies last.

Following the blood drive, visitors are invited to stay for a full afternoon of live music and activities on the car free street.

The day’s entertainment begins with McManus Irish Dance, performing under the tent on the Clinton-to-Henry block near Montague Diner at 12:15 PM and 1:45 PM. The school will bring traditional Irish step dancing to Montague Street with performances by its students and teachers. McManus dancers have appeared on the NBC TODAY show, at New York Mets games, on Broadway stages, and more.

At 12:30 PM, the Shinbone Alley Stilt Band will move through the street with live brass, second-line energy, and musicians towering above the crowd.

At 2 PM, singer-songwriter Hillary Powell performs under the tent on the Henry-to-Hicks block near James Weir Floral, bringing folk and Americana with a strong storytelling style.

At 3 PM, Irish singer-songwriter Podge Lane performs under the tent on the Clinton-to-Henry block near Montague Diner. Since arriving in New York in early 2025, Lane has played more than 120 shows, including appearances at Pete’s Candy Store, The Bitter End, and Big City Folk.

The day closes at 4 PM with JAW Band, a local favorite teen band bringing high energy, guitar-driven rock to the tent on the Henry to Hicks block near James Weir Floral.

Additional programming includes complimentary festival glam from City Chemist, including face glitter, body paint, and face and body tattoos; free kids’ art with Le Meraviglie Art Studio; giant street chess; oversized games; sidewalk chalk; and golf camp information and swing help from Golf v.2.

Food and outdoor dining will also be part of the day, with Chama Mama offering Georgian food samples and homemade lemonade. Montague Street restaurants will offer outdoor seating throughout the afternoon, including Cafe Brume, Chama Mama, The Custom House, Felice, Grand Canyon, Hanco’s, Khaosan, L’Appartement 4F, Lassen & Hennigs, Montague Bagel, Montague Diner, and Saketumi.

Montague Street businesses will be open throughout the afternoon, giving visitors a chance to shop, eat, browse, take a class, pick up flowers, and spend time on the car-free street before the Open Streets season comes to a close.

All programming is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required.
