Congresswoman Velazquez Shows Coronavirus Symptoms

Rep. Nydia Velazquez is isolating herself at home after a doctor told her symptoms fit the virus, according to the congresswoman's Twitter.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK — A Congresswoman representing a wide swath of New York City is suspected to have coronavirus.

Rep. Nydia Velazquez wrote Monday on Twitter that she is isolating herself at home after a presumed diagnosis for the virus. She wrote she is experiencing mild symptoms, which first began Sunday with muscle aches, fever, nasal congestion and an upset stomach.

She also noticed she could no longer taste food or smell perfume.

"After speaking with The Attending Physician by phone, I was diagnosed with presumed coronavirus infection," she wrote.

Five members of Congress were diagnosed with coronavirus before Velazquez, The Hill reported.

Velazquez represents the congressional Seventh District, a wide swath of New York City including west Brooklyn neighborhoods such as Park Slope, parts of lower Manhattan and portions of Queens.
