PARK SLOPE — An off-duty New York City school safety officer choked a 9-year-old relative before punching the child's mother, police said.

NYPD officers late Monday arrested Valerie Jackson, 59, following a violent incident in a home near Fifth Avenue and Ninth Street in Park Slope.

Authorities said Jackson choked a 9-year-old girl in her care. The girl complained to her mother, 33, who confronted Jackson.

Jackson responded by punching and shoving the woman, police said. They didn't have information on Jackson's and the woman's relationship.

Officers arrested Jackson on suspicion of strangulation, acting in a manner injurious to a child and harassment. Jackson worked as a NYPD school safety agent, but police said they didn't have information as to which school or schools she was posted.
