Breastfeeding Basics & Newborn Care prepares new parents for the fundamentals of feeding and caring for a newborn with an emphasis on the "how to's."

The following topics will be addressed:

• basic anatomy & physiology of lactation 
• short and long term benefits of breastfeeding 
• prenatal preparations for breastfeeding 
• establishing good latch and position 
• preventing and identifying common problems 
• how to tell if the baby is getting enough milk 
• recognizing hunger cues / infant behavior 
• pumping, storing, partner involvement in feeding 
• newborn appearance and behavior 
• newborn procedures (vitamin K, erythromycin, newborn screen) 
• umbilical cord care 
• bathing / diapering / dressing 
• sleep patterns / safe sleep environment 
• soothing techniques 
• bonding 
• taking an infants temperature 
• choosing a pediatrician

This workshop is included in our Childbirth Education series but can be taken as an individual offering as well for $120 per couple.
