Women of Color Writers' Community Free Poetry Writing Workshop

The Women of Color Writers Community has the core belief that everyone has a story to tell or a poem in her heart to share with the world. The voices of women of color in the literary world are too often unheard, under-represented or undervalued. We have created a community that supports women of color writers by increasing the scope, volume and quality of publications of our work both locally and globally.

The group was founded in 1999 by Bisi Ideraabdullah, founder and Executive Director of the Brooklyn-Liberia based non-profit, Imani House. WOC Writers Community is an affiliate of Amherst Writers as Artists and offers workshops in writing and poetry at the Park Slope office of Imani House.

This is the final poetry workshop for the season and is featuring Guest Poet, Cheryl Boyce-Taylor.  Cheryl Boyce-Taylor is a master poet, visual and teaching artist.  She is the founder of the Calypso Muse Reading Series and a recepient of the Partners in Writing Grant.  Her poems have been anthologized in Making the Trees Shiver, Poetry Nation, and Bowery Women among others.  Ms. Boyce-Taylor holds an MFA in poetry from USM.
