How to Spend Your Memorial Day in Park Slope

From Gowanus Grove to growler time at Bierkraft, the Slope has got it all.

It's Memorial Day Weekend and you didn't make plans. So, you're stuck in Park Slope and all your friends are at the beach.

Well, they're the suckers because Park Slope is the spot to be this Memorial Day.

Check out these cool events (or just sweet things to do) and have fun fun in the Slope.

The 15th Annual Green-Wood Memorial Day Concert

Come to the graveyard and celebrate 15 years of music! This year Green-Wood Cemetery celebrates 15 years of its Memorial Day concert. The concert features the ISO Symphonic Band, founded in 1995 to sponsor talented students throughout New York City. Led by its founder and conductor Brian P. Worsdale, each year the concert features the works of Green-Wood’s permanent residents, from Fred Ebb to Louis Moreau Gottschalk to Leonard Bernstein.

So, pack a blanket (and some cash for food and drinks will be on sale all day) and come on down on Monday, May 27 to soak in this early summer performance.

Directly after the concert, enjoy a special trolley tour with Green-Wood Historian Jeff Richman. Click here for more information on the tour, and reserve your spot now.   The concert is free, but make sure you register your family or friends here. 500 25th Street, 2:30 p.m.

Picnic in Prospect Park

Back a bag of charcoal, a blanket, drinks and meat (or veggies, or tofu, or seitan) and grab one of the grills in Prospect Park. It may be a good idea to bring your own grill—for many Brooklynites will be out in the park cooking up a storm.

Enjoy A Beer Outside

With so much of the neighborhood at the beach, you might actually stand a chance of scoring a table in The Gate’s yard on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Third Street. However, this isn’t the only spot to drink outside so make sure to hit Fifth Avenue and grab a backyard table at Bierkraft or Zito’s (remember, they sell growlers!) or other cool Park Slope spots.

Mister Sunday at Gowanus Grove

It’s that time of year again to party along the shore of the Gowanus. Mister Sunday (brought to you by Mister Saturday Night) will go down at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 26 at Gowanus Grove (400 Carroll Street between Bond and Nevins).

Party down with music by Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin and special guest Four Tet.

Make sure to come hungry, for there will be sausages from Mile End, tacos and huaraches from Red Hook Ball Field vendors Country Boys, James Durazzo & Friends will be serving up burgers, dogs, corn on the cob and root beer and other cold drinks from Botanica

It's a good idea to buy a ticket in advance for $10, or RSVP to mister@mistersaturdaynight.com. Festivities start at 3 p.m. and in respect for the neighbors it will end at 9 p.m. sharp. $12 at the gate, dogs (on a leash) and kids under 18 enter for free!
