GOWANUS, BROOKLYN — One man is dead and another hospitalized after two NYPD-involved shootings outside a Brooklyn public housing development and on a Bronx subway platform Tuesday night, according to police.

The first shooting erupted at the Gowanus Houses on Baltic Street just before 8 p.m., when two plain clothes officers patrolling in an unmarked car saw a man shooting his gun at another person, NYPD Chief Terence Monahan said.

The gunman ignored cops' demands that he drop his gun — a semi-automatic handgun later found near the complex — so the officers fired their weapons and hit him several times, said Monahan.

Emergency responders rushed the man in critical condition to Brookdale Hospital, where he later died, police said.

Both cops were sent to nearby hospitals for evaluation but neither was hurt, police said.

The man, who police haven't yet identified, was on parole after being released from prison last week, where he served five years for robbery, police said.

"He...has an extensive criminal record, including multiple violent felony convictions for which he has previously been on parole for," Monahan said at a press conference. "Once again, we see the inherent dangers cops face every single day they are on the streets keeping New Yorkers safe. This incident also underscores the urgency of getting illegal firearms off our city streets."

Only a few hours later, a man shot his gun in The Bronx's 225th Street subway station and drew police to the stop shortly after midnight, said NYPD Assistant Chief Larry Nikunen, the commanding officer of the Patrol Borough Bronx.

Two cops fired at the man on the southbound platform and hit him in the left shoulder, Nikunen said.

The man was taken to Jacobi Hospital and is in stable condition. The cops were sent to North Central Hospital to be evaluated, police said.

Police took the man's semi-automatic gun, which they found lying next to him as they took him into custody, police said.
