Park Slope Concert Celebrates Re-Release of 'Rarest LP Out There'

A 1977 film soundtrack that was once nearly impossible to find has been re-released, and Slopers are invited to celebrate with a concert.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Any Park Slopers who happen to be niche fans of 1970s redneck movies are in luck. A concert at Union Hall on Tuesday night will celebrate the re-release of one of a "redneck trucker film" soundtrack that was once nearly impossible to find.

The soundtrack to the 1977 film "Stinker Lets Loose" was recently revived by Burger Records for a 42nd-anniversary edition of the record, and a relative of the original singer will bring its fans together to celebrate in Brooklyn.

Mark Rozzo, the nephew of C.J. McKnight, who released the record back in 1978, has brought together a group of musicians to recreate the album at Park Slope's Union Hall at 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to Union Hall's website. Rozzo was a producer on the re-release of the album.

"Rozzo has called upon some of New York’s finest pickers, The Three Gentlemen, to recreate McKnight’s forgotten 70s country gems, along with friends and special guests, including comic genius Dave Hill and best-selling humorist Mike Sacks, who brought Stinker Lets Loose! back from obscurity," the website said.

Audible Comedy also recently created an audio version of the movie with Jon Hamm in the lead role. Before the re-release, the soundtrack had become "one of the rarest LPs out there," the website said.

Rozzo told Brooklyn Vegan that his uncle since died in his Nashville apartment after his short-lived fame as a country and Western musician.

The new album will include "ultra-rare bonus tracks and authoritative liner notes" and can be purchased as a CD, a direct download or a cassette, similar to the way it was originally sold back in the 70s.

Doors for the show at 702 Union Street open at 7:30 p.m. with the show beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10. The event will be mixed seating and standing, the website said, and attendees should arrive early for the best seat selection.
