Park Slope Cop Gets 75 Driving Tickets In 2 Years: Report

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A cop who works for Park Slope's 78th Precinct has possibly the most driving tickets than any other officer in the city, a new study shows.

Transit publication Streetsblog, which has been investigating ticket records on police vehicles and NYPD's personal cars, found that a Dodge Caravan parked at the 78th Precinct received 75 tickets in the last two years. The record was the most tickets they found during the week-long study and surpassed the next car in line by more than 30 tickets, according to the report.

Streetsblog published a full list of the driver's 53 speeding tickets, including several days where the car got three tickets in one day. The driver was ordered to pay 28 of the 53 speeding tickets and three of the five red-light tickets.

The report also found that this driver isn't the only car at the precinct with a bad record.

On one day last week, after collecting the license plate numbers of all cars parked in NYPD-only spaces at the precinct — or those parked illegally with NYPD placards — Streetsblog found that 75 percent of the 89 cars had been ticketed for an infraction.

About 60 percent of the cars had gotten tickets for moving violations like speeding or running a red light and about 42 percent of the cars had multiple tickets.

The results, the report said, were worse than the overall numbers of about a dozen other precincts that they had tested. In those totals, 58 percent had a moving violation and only 37 percent had multiple.
