Park Slope Is One of NYC's Best Summer Fun Neighborhoods: Study
Park Slope and Gowanus rounded out a list of the top 10 "summertime fun" spots in the city based on outdoor eateries, parks and bikes.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Park Slope is one of the best neighborhoods to go to for a fun time in the summer, a new study shows.
A RentHop analysis of New York City neighborhoods' parks, outdoor eateries, Citi Bike stations landed Park Slope and Gowanus, which were grouped in the study, on a list of the top 10 "summertime fun" spots. The two neighborhoods rounded out the list in the number 10 spot with a score of 79 out of 100.
The neighborhood was one of several in Brooklyn that made the list. Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill tied for second, Fort Greene landed in fourth and Williamsburg slid into the eighth spot.

The study looked at various factors that "make a summer day awesome, and not-so-awesome," including how much of the neighborhood is covered in parkland, how many trees line the streets and even how many 311 dog poop complaints were called in to the city.
For Park Slope-Gowanus, RentHop found that the neighborhoods had nearly 21 Citi Bike station, 13.11 sidewalk cafes and 1.97 rooftop bars per square mile.

The number of outdoor eating spots were, like most of the other Brooklyn neighborhoods on the list, not much compared to the Manhattan spots. The West Village had more than ten times the number of sidewalk cafes as Park Slope-Gowanus with 153 outdoor spots and Midtown-Midtown South took the title of the most rooftop bars with 39 per square mile.
But, the study did find that many Brooklyn neighborhoods can make up for what they lack in outdoor restaurants with outdoor grilling options. The study also looked at how many barbecue areas each neighborhood had to offer.
Park Slope came in fourth for that category with 5.25 grills per square mile.
"While Manhattan might be the borough with the most rooftops, Brooklyn can offer its residents and visitors designated areas to throw a BBQ," the study said.
Some of Park Slope-Gowanus' other scores include that about 2.5 percent of the neighborhoods are covered in parks and there are about four street trees for every 1,000 square miles. The study didn't include Prospect Park as part of Park Slope, but did give neighborhoods near Brookyn's backyard a boost in their score, the study said.
