PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Park Slope's annual tree lighting, dubbed the first of the year in New York City, will kick off on Saturday.

The annual tree lighting, held on Fifth Avenue, will take place after an evening of music and family activities, including a visit from Santa and his elf, according to the Business Improvement District, which organizes the event each year.

The lighting also marks the end of the Open Streets season on the corridor, which has closed down to cars each Saturday so neighbors could dine, shop and play in certain blocks of the roadway. The Open Streets program has run every weekend since March 13, a total of 51 weekends this year and 76 since the program launched in 2020.
