PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — After a year off, Park Slope's short film festival is coming back this spring, and deadlines to get a submission into the event are coming up fast.

The "Art Slope -- Shorts in the Slope" festival first ran in 2017 after a 90-minute minute program featuring short films became one of the more popular showings at the the neighborhood-wide arts festival Art Slope in 2016, curated by Bill Schaumberg. The shorts-only festival then kicked off in 2017.

"The Arts Committee reviewed over 90 short film submissions from around the world and featured a festival line up of 30 films, with subject matter ranging from narrative, documentary, animations, humor and horror," the committee said on its website.

The committee, part of the Park Slope Civic Council, then held a screening of "Little Fugitive" last fall as a preview of the second full shorts festival, set for this spring.

The time for that festival is fast approaching, along with its deadlines. The festival itself will kick off the weekend of April 5 at Berkeley Carroll School's Marlene Clary Performance Space at 152 Sterling Place.

The deadline to submit a film for the spring festival is Thursday, with a late deadline on March 20. Filmmakers will learn if their piece made the cut by March 31, according to the event website.

New this year will be a Youth Film Segment, that will let those ages 7 to 13 and 14 to 18 submit their works for one of four screenings. The youth screenings will be Friday night at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 8 p.m.
