Prospect Park Holds Easter Egg Hunt For Dogs This Weekend

Here's everything you, and your pup, need to know to get in on an Easter egg hunt for dogs — and some human-focused ones too.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Just because Easter's mascot is a bunny doesn't mean dogs can't get in on the fun, too. An event in Prospect Park this weekend will let New Yorker's canine best friends celebrate the holiday in an unconventional egg hunt for dogs.

BARK, a New York City company that created monthly dog-product subscription boxes, is hosting an Easter egg hunt for dogs from 8 to 9 a.m on Saturday morning.

Parkgoers can bring their pups that morning and take them on a #BarkEggventure to search for 250 toy Easter eggs hidden around the park's Long Meadow and Dog Beach. Each egg that the dogs, and humans, find will have a code for a free BarkBox from the company.

BarkBox is a monthly subscription gift box of dog treats and toys.

The dog-themed hunt is far from the only Easter celebration this weekend in the area, though.

For those looking for a more conventional egg hunt without their pets, here are a few in the area:

  • Wyckoff Farmhouse Museum: East Flatbush Village and Public Advocate Humane Williams will host a free Easter egg hunt from 12 to 3 p.m. Pre-registration required.
  • Herbert Von King Park: Legacy Brooklyn will host a free hunt from 12 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lafayette Ave park. Those interested should RSVP.
  • First Quincy Street Community Garden: Families for this egg hunt are asked to bring ten plastic eggs filled with goodies (nut-free) per child that is participating. Volunteers will start hiding the eggs at 12:30 p.m. Sunday and the egg hunt itself will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
  • Trinity Grace Church: This Easter egg hunt and afternoon of games, music and crafts will be held at the Prospect Park Bandshell from 10:30 am. to 1 p.m. Saturday
  • Old First Reformed Church: A historic church in Park Slope will celebrate its first reopening in nearly eight years with a free breakfast buffet at 9:30 a.m., an 11 a.m. mass and an Easter egg hunt to follow in the garden. The church was closed since 2011 as the congregation undergoes a large renovation.
