Prospect Park Lakeside Reopens, Summer Activities Announced

PROSPECT PARK, BROOKLYN — To-go play kits, self-guided bird watching tours and other socially distanced activities are ready for New Yorkers at Prospect Park, including the soon-to-be reopened Lakeside.

The Prospect Park Alliance unveiled its line-up of summer activities in Brooklyn's backyard this week and announced that the LeFrak Center at Lakeside will reopen in August for boat, bike and kayak rentals or a stop at its Splash Pad and Bluestone Cafe.

The activities include safety measures to keep up with social distancing guidelines for the coronavirus pandemic, including virtual exercise classes, to-go kits and sanitizing of materials.

LeFrak Center at Lakeside Reopens
Saturday, August 1
Open Daily

Beginning on August 1, the LeFrak Center at Lakeside is open daily! Rent boats, kayaks and specialty bicycles for some summertime fun exploring the park. Cool off at the beloved Splash Pad, and stop by Bluestone Cafe for food and drink available for takeaway, prospectpark.org/lakeside.

Update: Due to an equipment delay, boat rentals will now begin next week, likely Aug. 7. Bike rentals, the Splash Pad and Bluestone Cafe are still set to open Aug. 1.

Pop-Up Lefferts Play and Go Kits
Six Sundays in August and September
Various Locations, Free

Pop-Up Lefferts brings your favorite family activities enjoyed at Lefferts Historic House to locations around Prospect Park and surrounding neighborhoods. Enjoy Play and Go Kits filled with historic games, toys and books. Kits are borrowed on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 45 minutes, and will be sanitized between sessions. Pop-Up Lefferts is presented by NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, prospectpark.org/popuplefferts.

Pop-Up Audubon Play and Go Kits
Six Sundays in August and September
Various Locations, Free

Pop-Up Audubon returns featuring nature activities and games, a birdwatching checklist with binoculars, and more. Families and children can enjoy nature on their own as they explore and learn more about the park. Kits are borrowed on a first-come, first-served basis for up to 45 minutes, and will be sanitized between sessions. Pop-Up Audubon is made possible through the generous support of Con Edison, prospectpark.org/popupaudubon.

Green and Go Kits
Saturdays and Sundays through August 30
Various Locations, Free

Join Prospect Park Alliance to help keep our park green and vibrant this summer! Register to check out a Green and Go Kit at various locations around the park. These kits include a trash grabber, garbage bags and gloves, prospectpark.org/green-and-go.

Virtual Yoga in the Park
Thursdays through September 3
Streaming Online, Free

Weill Cornell Medicine, Bend + Bloom Yoga and Prospect Park Alliance present the 12th annual Prospect Park Yoga series through September 3. This free, weekly outdoor yoga series takes place on Thursdays, with classes presented online via Zoom from 7 pm to 8 pm. Classes are broadcast live from a scenic location in the park, and participants may tune in from any device, prospectpark.org/yoga.

Prospect Park Tennis Center
Open Daily, 7 am–11 pm

The Prospect Park Tennis Center, one of Brooklyn’s most popular tennis destinations, is open! Featuring hard and clay courts, the Center is open daily for day and evening tennis. Book court time, a private or semi-private lesson for youth or adults with one of our talented pros, or sign up for an adult group tennis class to up your game, prospectpark.org/tennis.
