WEATHER ALERT: Flood Advisory Issued for Brooklyn, Queens

"Heavy rain moving into the advisory area."

At 12:23 p.m. today, the National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for Queens County and Kings County.

The warning lasts until 2:15 p.m.

Rainfall could reach one inch within this time frame, with ”brief instantaneous rainfall rates” of more than two inches per hour, NWS says.

The advisory is based on radar showing “showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain moving into the advisory area.”

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage areas and low-lying spots. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.
