Willie's Dawgs is Dog Gone

  — the popular Fifth Avenue hot dog spot known for its all-beef dogs served up in challah, rye and multi-grain buns  — is calling it quits.

"Willie's is up for adoption,” owners Tom Anderson and Ellen Lutter wrote Park Slope Patch in a statement.  "It was a great four-year run and it's time to move on."

The store, which opened in 2007, will shutter this coming Sunday.  In addition to serving up quality dogs (including a not-too-shabby tofu dog), Willie’s was known for its work raising money for advocates of pet adoption, including Sean Casey Animal Rescue.

According to Steve Viuker, a friend who does some PR for the store, Anderson was simply worn out from many years of running the store solo.

Said Anderson, “Every 'dawg' has its day and we had many."

Lucky for Fifth Avenue residents, at least .
