UPDATE: Woman Seriously Injured In Long Island Expressway Crash

The westbound LIE was closed between 67 and 68, but later reopened, Suffolk police said.

YAPHANK, NY — A 53-year-old Bethpage woman was seriously injured when the car she was driving rear-ended a tractor-trailer on the Long Island Expressway in Yaphank on Thursday morning, Suffolk police said.

The woman was driving a 2015 Nissan on the westbound Long Island Expressway, east of Exit 67, when it struck the rear of a 2016 Kenwood tractor-trailer that was stopped in traffic for construction at 5:25 a.m., according to police.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The tractor-trailer's driver, a 52-year-old Port Jefferson Station man, was not injured in the crash, according to police.

The Nissan was impounded for a safety check, police said, adding, that the tractor-trailer was inspected at the scene by officers from the Motor Carrier Safety Section.
